The Iowa Democratic Party is seeking interns for the fall of 2025. Positions will begin as early as September 8 and run through November 21. This is an opportunity for people hoping to explore a career in politics. Interns will be cross-trained between departments for the necessary skills to work on campaigns. By the end of internship, interns will be excellent candidates for entry-level, full-time positions on campaigns.
Status: The positions are part-time (a maximum of 20 hours a week) with compensation of $16.54/hour. Interns’ direct report will depend on what Department they are assigned to. The positions can be anywhere in Iowa, but there will be regular mandatory meetings in Des Moines.
Position Responsibilities Include:
Organizing
- Build relationships with party leaders and volunteers across the State.
- Learn and implement voter outreach tools and best practices.
- Assist in hosting or co-hosting successful events.
- Collaborate with other departments of the IDP to help ensure the success of organizing programs.
Data
- Support organizing efforts by creating targeted lists, phonebanks, and events using VAN/Votebuilder.
- Input and clean data from outreach efforts such as event attendance, volunteer information, and voter contact details.
- Respond to VAN/Votebuilder issues reported by county and party leaders and troubleshoot common problems.
Finance
- Conduct donor research to identify new prospective donors.
- Assist Call Time Manager in running candidate call time, donor outreach, and donor follow-up.
- Manage day-to-day check processing for direct mail program
- Assist with fundraising events.
- Maintain CRM databases and ensure proper data management.
Communications
- Find and create relationships with online influencers to help build out IDP’s digital organizing efforts.
- Compile and edit documents that will be used for State Central Committee meetings and to send to SCC members and county chairs.
- Create and distribute materials for county fairs, parades and other events.
- Compile weekly and quarterly communications reports.
Operations related duties as assigned.

- Previous campaign or political experience a plus but not required
- Previous experience with VAN, NGP, or Democratic campaign tools a plus but not required
