“Not In Kansas Anymore”: Iowans in Belle Plaine and Sioux City Have “Suspicions Of” Zach Lahn
DES MOINES – New reporting from the Daily Iowan highlights how Iowans have “suspicions of [Zach] Lahn” and say he has “ulterior motives in Belle Plaine … as the candidate seems to have not quite left Kansas behind.”
The Daily Iowan spoke with community members in Belle Plaine and Sioux City, Lahn’s supposed hometowns, who said “they have either never seen him around Belle Plaine or haven’t spoken with him” and said Lahn “has not made a significant impact on the community.” This comes after Lahn was caught hiding his flights to Kansas while skipping campaign events in Iowa and had his 2024 general election ballot mailed to him in Kansas.
Here’s what Iowans are saying about Zach Lahn living in Kansas:
- Belle Plaine waitress: “I don’t know who that is.”
- Belle Plaine Historical Museum Director: “Didn’t know enough about [Lahn] to share any insight beyond his curated campaign messaging and public appearances.”
- Vietnam veteran and Belle Plaine business owner: Lahn “has had ulterior motives in Belle Plaine since he moved there … Lahn himself has not made a significant impact on the community.”
- Former Sioux City East High School football coach: “I will not be able to speak with you about Zach. It has been many years.”
- Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott: “Did not respond to the Daily Iowan.”
From Iowa Democratic Party spokesperson Terra Hernandez:
“It’s no surprise that Iowans don’t know and don’t trust Zach Lahn after he spent his entire campaign lying about living in Kansas. Iowans don’t want a part-time resident as their next governor, and in one week, they will send Zach Lahn back to Kansas.”
