BREAKING: Ethics Complaint Filed Against Zach Lahn Requesting Investigation Into Who Bankrolled Running Mate’s Secret $540K Loan
DES MOINES – Less than a week before the election, Zach Lahn’s campaign has been hit with an ethics complaint for hiding who secretly paid off his running mate’s $540,000 debt.
The complaint calls on the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board to immediately investigate Lahn and Derek Wulf for violating campaign finance laws by “accepting a prohibited loan from a lobbyist,” “failing to disclose a campaign contribution,” and “accepting a prohibited gift from a restricted donor.”
This ethics complaint comes after the Des Moines Register and Iowa Starting Line revealed that Lahn’s campaign knew about Wulf’s legal and financial scandals when he selected Wulf as his running mate, and possibly arranged a secret bailout to clear Wulf’s $540,000 debt. A donor to Lahn’s campaign formed an LLC in Illinois “specifically” to allow a mysterious Iowa lender to pay off Wulf’s debts just two weeks after Lahn’s staff promised the scandal was headed to a “swift resolution.” The donor to Lahn’s campaign has said that he doesn’t “have the faintest idea” if the mystery Iowa lender is a lobbyist.
Lahn has refused multiple requests to tell Iowans who is paying Wulf’s debts. Wulf is also under criminal investigation and accused of stealing from and defrauding farmers.
From Iowa Democratic Party spokesperson Terra Hernandez:
“Zach Lahn and Derek Wulf’s corruption represents everything Iowans hate about the status quo that is failing us every day. Iowans deserve to know who paid off Wulf’s debts, why Lahn is dead-set on covering it up, and what that secret lender was promised in return for such a generous loan.”
