NEW REPORT: Zach Lahn’s Running Mate Owes His Parents $275K in Unpaid Farm Rent
DES MOINES – Zach Lahn’s running mate Derek Wulf’s legal and financial scandals continue to drag down their ticket, as new reporting from the Des Moines Register reveals that accused fraudster Wulf owes his parents “$275,000 in rent for farmland that has gone unpaid since 2024.”
According to the Des Moines Register, “Wulf’s parents join a list of farmers, agricultural suppliers and lenders who have accused” him of “failing to make debt payments. Since 2023, eight plaintiffs have sued Wulf or his company,” and his parents say he also misrepresented his assets to lenders. Previous reporting revealed that Lahn’s campaign knew about Wulf’s legal and financial scandals when he joined the ticket, and possibly arranged a secret bailout to clear Wulf’s $540,000 debt.
Wulf’s home is in receivership, he is under a criminal investigation, and farmers continue to accuse him of theft and fraud. Yet Lahn’s campaign continues to insist that “all creditors have been paid” while attacking Wulf’s father by claiming he’s mentally unsound. An attorney for Wulf’s parents called the attack “categorically false.”
From Iowa Democratic Party spokesperson Terra Hernandez:
“Zach Lahn has demonstrated he will lie about anything and everything to get elected. Lahn’s decision to continue standing by an accused fraudster who is under criminal investigation and stiffed his own parents should make all Iowans question his judgement. Iowans deserve answers, but Lahn is asking them to look the other way when it comes to his own running mate.”
