NEW: “Lahn’s Running Mate Has Deep Ties to Big Ag”
DES MOINES – A new report from American Journal News details how Zach Lahn’s running mate Derek Wulf has “deep ties” to big pesticide companies — making it clear that a Lahn-Wulf administration would continue Kim Reynolds’ failed legacy of putting special interests over Iowa families.
Wulf took “significant corporate donation[s]” from pesticide companies and “voted to protect farm chemical producers.” He voted to gut funding for water quality monitors, make it harder for the Department of Natural Resources to put bodies of water on the impaired list, and wrote a bill to protect corporate polluters from being sued. The pesticide lobby said Wulf even “back[ed] a glyphosate immunity bill,” which “has been linked to lymphoma and other cancers.”
Wulf “attended a White House event in June … expediting the approval of new pesticide ingredients” that “have been linked to reduced fertility rates and endocrine disruption.”
From Iowa Democratic Party spokesperson Terra Hernandez:
“Iowans deserve a governor who will stand up to big pesticide companies, but Zach Lahn spent his career working for big polluters, and his running mate did their bidding in the legislature. A Lahn-Wulf administration would continue Kim Reynolds’ failed status quo: protecting polluters, ignoring Iowa’s water quality and cancer crises, and putting special interests ahead of Iowa families.”
