DES MOINES – Over the weekend, Iowa farmers were hit with dreaded news of a new trade war with Canada and the announcement of foreign beef flooding the United States, both of which threaten to exacerbate the farm crisis gripping Iowa.

Ashley Hinson has long supported the chaotic tariffs and remained silent about terrible trade policies that have driven up farm bankruptcy rates in Iowa and cost Iowa farmers $1.5 billion.

Iowa farmers and cattlemen have said they’re “extremely disappointed” by the latest news, which they described as yet “another hit” to their bottom lines.

“Ashley Hinson has abandoned Iowa farmers who have been struggling for more than a year because of her support for chaotic tariffs and refusal to stand up to members of her own party,” said Iowa Democratic Party spokesperson Drew Myers. “Nothing she does now can repair the damage she’s wreaked on Iowa farmers who can no longer afford Ashley Hinson in Congress. ”

  • February 10, 2026: Hinson votes to keep in place tariffs and prevent Congress from voting on them in the future.
