ICYMI: Iowa Hit With Record Layoffs

Iowa employers laid off 656 workers in June, the highest monthly loss since June 2025.

DES MOINES – Iowa’s economy continues to crumble under a decade of one-party rule, as a slew of companies announced far-reaching layoffs this June.

Whirlpool Corp., the Iowa Department of Management, Plastic Products Co., BrandFX, and Wells Fargo are all closing plants or firing workers, leaving hundreds of Iowa families behind in the dust.

With 656 workers dismissed in total, it amounts to Iowa’s worst month for layoffs since June 2025, exactly one year ago.

It couldn’t come at a worse time; rising prices, Trump’s tariffs, and the Iran War are all combining to create the perfect disaster for Iowa’s economy.

Take a look at the Iowans who are losing their jobs:

  • Iowa Department of Management announced June 9 that it would lay off 192 IT workers, effective Aug. 3
  • Whirlpool’s layoffs at its Middle Amana plant, which once employed 3,000, followed previous announcements as its workforce dwindles to the hundreds.
  • Two other manufacturers announced closures, affecting 133 workers. Plastic Products Co. will wind down its West Branch facility in August, and truck body maker BrandFX will close its Swea City plant Aug. 31.
  • Wells Fargo has cut 1,558 jobs in 99 announced layoffs in the Des Moines metro since April 2022, according to WARN data, with many more jobs lost to attrition.
