Four Things to Know About Ashley Hinson’s Record of Supporting Unpopular Abortion Bans on the Four Year Anniversary of the Dobbs Decision
Four Years Ago Today, Hinson Celebrated the Overturning of Roe v. Wade
Hinson Has a Long Anti-Choice Record That Traces Back to Her Time in the State House Where She Voted for the “Nation’s Strictest Abortion Law” That is Deeply Unpopular in Iowa
DES MOINES – Four years ago, Ashley Hinson celebrated after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ripping away Iowa women’s right to make their own healthcare decisions and laying the groundwork for politicians like Hinson to enact unpopular abortion bans.
“To this day, Ashley Hinson continues to pursue an unpopular, total ban on abortion without exceptions for rape, incest, or life of the mother,” said Iowa Democratic Party Spokesperson Drew Myers. “Her radical anti-choice agenda is completely out of touch with Iowans, and it’s exactly why voters will reject her in November.”
Four years later, here are four things to know about Ashley Hinson’s record of supporting deeply unpopular abortion bans and other restrictions to reproductive health care:
1. Hinson has repeatedly co-sponsored a total national abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or life of the mother, that would also ban common forms of birth control.
2. Hinson cast the deciding vote to pass an Iowa abortion ban described as “the nation’s strictest abortion law.”
3. As Iowa OBGYNs were fleeing the state due to restrictions on the care they could provide, Hinson supported legislation that could jail doctors and said those who provide care should be punished.
4. Hinson voted against the bipartisan Right to Contraception Act, which would have enacted protections for birth control access following the Dobbs decision.
