Iowa GOP Delegation Fail to Help Farmers Amidst Historic Downward Spiral of Ag Economy
Iowa’s GOP Delegation Failed to Pass Legislation Allowing for the Sale of Year-Round E15
DES MOINES – Ashley Hinson, Randy Feenstra, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, and Zach Nunn are leaving farmers and Iowa families stranded after they failed – yet again – to pass year-round E15, which would help bring in revenue for farmers and lower prices at the pump for Iowans.
“Ashley Hinson, Randy Feenstra, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, and Zach Nunn are continuing to make the lives of Iowa farmers more difficult with their latest failure to pass year-round E15,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart. “After sending Iowa’s ag economy into a downward spiral with their votes defending chaotic tariffs and supporting the Iran war, their lack of action this week is proving to Iowans that it’s time for new leadership who can get us out of the mess they’ve created.”
Over the last year, Iowa farmers have been demanding that Congress pass year-round E15 to help clean up the mess Iowa’s GOP delegation created by supporting the Iran war and chaotic DC tariffs that have dramatically raised costs for farmers.
The bill was scheduled to be voted on by the House of Representatives yesterday and now won’t be considered again for weeks – if not longer.
As Politico reported, one House Republican said that Iowa Republicans’ inability to pass nationwide year-round E15 means it’s “lights-out for Feenstra’s governor bid and … a few House seats.” Feenstra — the chair of a useless biofuels council in Congress that only exists because of his failure to deliver on year-round E15 — claimed last month that an E15 bill would pass “in the next couple weeks,” despite his failure to put a bill on the floor since January.
Iowa’s congressional delegation has repeatedly proven they are too weak to deliver for farmers and were even warned “their protests against the Farm Bill and E15 measure were unnecessary — since the House version of the Farm Bill was going nowhere in the Senate.”
Agri-Pulse: Farm Bill gets snarled in ethanol politics with E15 in limbo
- The farm bill got off to a late start in the House on Wednesday as concern about a related ethanol bill threatened the legislation. The E15 bill is now expected to be taken up separately in two weeks.
