Iowa Farmers United by Commonsense: “We Believe an Urgent Course Correction is Needed to Stop the Downward Spiral Threatening Iowa Agriculture”

The Gazette Letter to the Editor: “Group Focuses on Iowa’s Bleak Agricultural Future”

DES MOINES – Members of the newly formed Iowa Farmers United by Commonsense are continuing to sound the alarm over rising prices, chaotic trade policies, and corporate consolidation that are crushing Iowa farms.

In a new letter to the editor, a member of the coalition is encouraging Democrats, Republicans, and Independent farmers across the state to join in calling for new leadership that gets Iowa agriculture out of its current downward spiral.

The Gazette: Letter to the Editor: Group focuses on Iowa’s bleak agricultural future

  • I am one of many Iowa farmers joining our voices in “Iowa Farmers United by Commonsense.” Together we believe an urgent course correction is needed to stop the downward spiral threatening Iowa agriculture.
  • Farmers are facing a bleak future because of pointless tariffs, loss of foreign trade, massive USDA program cuts and spiking input costs.
  • We have commonsense solutions for these problems. We need an end to the tariff madness. We need trade deals and investment in a reliable USDA. We need to address the consolidation and corporate monopolization across agricultural sectors.
  • And where is our Iowa congressional delegation while all of this is happening? They are selfishly focusing on partisan politics, turning their backs on us and choosing to avoid showing up for and in rural Iowa. Ultimately one group or the other must go and I vote for the success of farmers.
  • Iowa Farmers United by Commonsense isn’t guided by partisan politics. We are uniting for the future success of agriculture and ultimately the state. […] Democrats, Republicans and Independents are working together to demand the attention of our leaders who have allowed this mess to continue.
  • Join us so our united voices are heard in a big way come November.
