BREAKING: Iowa Dems Slam Congressional Delegation After Supreme Court Strikes Down Tariffs
Iowa’s Congressional Delegation Consistently Voted to Keep in Place Chaotic DC Tariffs
Iowa Families and Farmers Have Been Hammered by Costly Tariffs That Are Raising Prices, Killing Jobs, and Devastating the Ag Economy
DES MOINES – Today, the Supreme Court has done what Ashley Hinson, Randy Feenstra, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, and Zach Nunn refused to do for nearly a year: protect Iowans from unconstitutional tariffs that are raising prices on Iowans across the state.
Over the past year, the delegation has consistently surrendered their responsibility as a co-equal branch of government by voting to keep in place chaotic and costly tariffs that are taking a massive toll on Iowa’s economy.
“For too long, Iowans have been forced to bear the brunt of DC’s chaotic tariffs because of our congressional delegation’s inaction,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart. “Families saw prices spike at the grocery store, while farmers saw markets disappear and input costs skyrocket. Iowa voters are experiencing real economic pain caused by those who refused to fight for them in DC. Voters will have a chance to make their voices heard in November accordingly.”
Tariffs Are Crushing Iowa’s Economy:
- Tariffs are making everything more expensive and already cost the average family $1,000 in 2025 alone.
- Tariffs have pushed Iowa’s agriculture industry to the brink of another farm crisis as farmers are still struggling to make up for the last trade war.
- Iowa farmers are bracing to lose money for the fourth consecutive year.
- Iowa farmers filed for bankruptcy at the second highest rate in the country in 2025.
- Ashley Hinson stands by the chaotic tariffs that are harming Iowa farmers, even as tariffs “cost Iowa businesses $90 million” in just one month.
- Randy Feenstra repeatedly voted to rubber stamp the disastrous tariffs that are raising prices on Iowa farmers, cheered on chaotic tariffs, and said “I applaud” Washington’s reckless trade policy.
- Mariannette Miller-Meeks repeatedly voted to rubber stamp these reckless tariffs, suggesting she was working to codify the tariffs, and even “defended the Trump Administration’s bailout of Argentina” as farmers here at home are hurting.
- Zach Nunn voted time and again to back the reckless tariffs, including just last week “defend[ing] backing Trump tariffs” as costs rise and families are hurting.
