Ashley Hinson, Iowa GOP Congressional Delegation Vote to Keep in Place Chaotic Tariffs That Are Hurting Iowa Farmers
All Four of Iowa’s Representatives Voted to Keep in Place 25 Percent Tariffs on All Imports from Canada
DES MOINES – Ashley Hinson and the Iowa GOP Congressional delegation refused to provide much needed relief for Iowa farmers, who are struggling under the weight of chaotic tariffs that are costing them millions of dollars. They voted to keep in place 25 percent tariffs on Canada that are jacking up agricultural input costs, destabilizing important trading relationships, and creating immense economic uncertainty.
Hinson, Randy Feenstra, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, and Zach Nunn have all voted repeatedly in support of the Trump Administration’s disastrous tariffs and have done nothing to mitigate the harm they are having on Iowa farmers.
“Ashley Hinson, Randy Feenstra, Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn are ignoring the pleas from Iowa farmers who are demanding an end to the tariff madness that is costing them tens of millions of dollars,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart. “Come November, farmers will remember that their elected leaders were unwilling to fight for them in Washington when it mattered.”
Last year, the Trump Administration announced a 25 percent tariff on all goods from Canada, which is the top export market for Iowa agriculture, accounting for around $5.8 billion of all agriculture exports out of the state.
The tariffs are sending the price of fertilizer skyrocketing because Canada supplies 90 percent of potash – an essential agricultural fertilizer – imported into the United States.
The Trump Administration knows their tariffs are crushing Iowa farmers, which is why they were forced to announce a $12 billion farm bailout at the end of 2025, an amount Iowa farmers say is still not enough to cover their catastrophic losses.
