Donald Trump Touts John Deere Building in North Carolina as Company Cuts Manufacturing Jobs in Iowa
CLIVE – Donald Trump bragged about John Deere expanding its factories in North Carolina while hundreds of John Deere workers have been laid off in Iowa over the last year.
John Deere’s 2025 layoffs in Iowa included:
- 101 workers laid off in Waterloo (IA-02)
- 41 workers laid off from Des Moines works (IA-03)
- 238 workers laid off across 3 plants, including the plant in Waterloo (IA-02)
- 141 workers laid off in Ankeny (IA-03) and Waterloo (IA-02)
The company laid off around 2,200 employees in Iowa between April 2024 and September 2025.
While Trump brags about a new plant in North Carolina, Iowans are missing out on any benefits of Deere “expanding.”
