ICYMI: MercyOne Ottumwa clinic to close Feb. 27; another clinic reduces services

DES MOINES – Today, MercyOne announced it will close its family and internal medicine facility in Ottumwa.

Patients will be referred to the nearest  MercyOne Family Medicine, which is about an hour away in Centerville. The health system said its human resources team is working with affected employees on next steps, including assistance applying for other open positions.

Pella Regional Medical Clinic in Ottumwa also announced it will also reduce family practice operations effective Jan. 15, citing ongoing challenges in recruiting and retaining providers.

According to information provided by Pella Regional to The Courier, the clinic no longer offers the full scope of family practice services.

Last week, Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Fort Madison also announced it will stop inpatient labor and delivery services by the end of 2026.

These closures come after Iowa’s GOP federal delegation voted for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which puts health care access for 106,700 Iowans at risk and puts other rural hospitals at risk.
