On the 11th Day of Decline, the Iowa GOP Gave Us…
The Most Structurally Deficient Bridges in the Nation

DES MOINES, IA – On the eleventh day of Christmas, Iowans didn’t receive eleven swans a-swimming. Instead, Republicans gave Iowans the most structurally deficient bridges in the nation.

Nearly a quarter of Iowa’s 18,000 bridges are considered to be in poor condition. If a bridge is considered structurally deficient, it may have cracks or other flaws that significantly reduce how much weight it can carry. While structurally deficient bridges aren’t necessarily considered unsafe, they create a nuisance for Iowa farmers who have to move heavy machinery.

The counties with the most structurally deficient bridges are almost all rural counties.

Safe, reliable infrastructure shouldn’t be a holiday wish — it’s long overdue.

This December, instead of French hens and golden rings, we’re counting down the 12 Days of Iowa’s decline — a daily look at the rankings Iowa has tanked under a decade of one-party rule. Stay tuned tomorrow for Day 12.
