On the 10th Day of Decline, the Iowa GOP Gave Us…
A State That’s Quickly Slipping in National Business Rankings

DES MOINES, IA – On the tenth day of Christmas, Iowans didn’t receive ten lords a-leaping. Instead, Republicans gave Iowans a state that’s quickly slipping in national business rankings.

Iowa dropped 10 spots in CNBC’s Business Rankings in one year. CNBC’s report says Iowa’s business friendliness is down 14 spots, Iowa’s economy has fallen from 33rd to 39th, and Iowa’s workforce went from 27th to 41st in the nation.

States were judged on 135 metrics and 10 broad categories of competitiveness. Metrics were also added to gauge the state’s risk from a trade war and a shrinking federal budget.

Iowa was also ranked as 46th for business environment in 2025 by US News & World Report. All neighboring states ranked higher than Iowa. Iowa is dead last among Midwestern states.  It’s downright shocking and proof that Republican control in Iowa is bad for business.

This December, instead of French hens and golden rings, we’re counting down the 12 Days of Iowa’s decline — a daily look at the rankings Iowa has tanked under a decade of one-party rule. Stay tuned tomorrow for Day 11.
