IDP Chair Rita Hart Releases Statement on Special Election In House District 7

DES MOINES – Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart released the following statement regarding tonight’s State House District 7 special election results: 

“Rachel Burns ran a gutsy and inspiring campaign, and the results of her hard work were clear tonight – overperforming by 11 points and forcing Republicans to spend over $35,000 in a district that Donald Trump won by 52,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart. “Dedicated Democrats assisted in Rachel’s efforts, giving their time and energy to move the needle in HD-7. Whether that’s knocking doors in the snow or making calls from cozier quarters, Democrats worked together to make a difference. I’d like to thank Rachel for stepping up to the plate in a very tough district for Democrats and for sticking up for her students, clients, and citizens throughout her long career as an educator, speech pathologist, and first responder. As long as Democrats who care for their communities as much as Rachel does are willing to take a stand, this race shows we are gaining significant ground in Republican districts before the midterms.”
