HOLSTEIN – Despite people paying for tickets to hear from all of the GOP gubernatorial candidates as advertised, No-Show Randy Feenstra failed to honor his commitment to show up for the forum.

Here’s what Feenstra’s opponents had to say about his failure to show up:

Brad ShermanFeenstra not showing up is becoming a pattern, Sherman said. He [Sherman] wanted to ask about a report speaking at a woman’s group in Des Moines and he [Feenstra] was asked about cancer rates and his answer was that well maybe we could demand colonoscopies and mammograms mandatory otherwise you can’t use your driver’s license. ‘I was hoping he would be here so I could ask if that was true. That guy needs to show up.’

Adam SteenAdam Steen opened his remarks by saying it is great to see all 5 gubernatorial candidates in the same room. Then said who are we kidding, where is Randy Feenstra? He said Feenstra likes to talk about how tall he is but he doesn’t show up. Steen said he is tall too, and guess what, nobody cares. People need to show up, Steen said.

Zach LahnZach Lahn takes shot at absent Randy Feenstra. Says the last time he heard Feenstra talk about eminent domain and CO2 pipelines Feenstra said eminent domain “shouldn’t” be used for the project. He said that answer is not strong enough and should disqualify him from the race for governor.

Feenstra also failed to show up to a gubernatorial debate hosted by the Plymouth County Republicans on November 18, and a Republican Fall Fire Up held in Jefferson on November 20. Feenstra refused three times to answer Simon Conway when asked whether he’d ever show up to a Republican primary debate.

“No-Show Randy Feenstra is making it a point to dodge any forum or debate that would put him on a stage with his Republican challengers. What is he so scared of?” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart. “Iowans want a Governor who doesn’t back down from a promise or dodge questions from citizens, and No-Show Randy Feenstra clearly isn’t up for the job.”
