Iowa Representatives Play Politics, Failed to Stand Up for Epstein Victims

Iowa’s Republican representatives only voted for releasing the Epstein files after Trump told them they could

DES MOINES – Iowa’s Republican Representatives Randy Feenstra, Ashley Hinson, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, and Zach Nunn failed to stand up for Jeffrey Epstein’s victims and instead played politics with the justice system and waited for permission from their party bosses to advocate for victims of abuse. The four representatives previously blocked a vote on releasing the files and did nothing to push for transparency.

Iowa’s representatives only voted to release the Epstein Files after Trump told them they could. As a reminder:

  • Feenstra, Hinson, Miller-Meeks and Nunn voted NO in July to prevent a vote forcing the Epstein files’ release and fell in line with their party bosses to BLOCK an attempt to release the Epstein files.
  • None of them did anything to force this vote into taking place. Feenstra, Hinson, Miller-Meeks and Nunn all stood by and refused to sign the discharge petition – the only reason why this vote is taking place.
  • Miller-Meeks even skipped out on a vote for an amendment to release files related to Epstein’s relationship with criminal Larry Nassar during an Energy and Commerce committee hearing.

“Iowa’s representatives showed how spineless they really are by voting to block the public from learning the truth in the Epstein Files for months, only giving in when Trump finally told them to vote for the release,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart. “It’s clear that they stand with their DC party bosses and powerful interests, not with Iowans and not with victims of abuse. Iowa’s representatives have stood in the way of transparency and accountability. We need leaders in Washington who will stand up for justice instead of cruelly allowing this kind of corruption.”
