Miller-Meeks, Feenstra, Hinson fundraise during their vacation as shutdown drags on

Federal workers missed a full paycheck Friday, insurance premiums spike and SNAP benefits run out Saturday, November 1

Washington, DC – The House of Representatives will be out of session for the sixth consecutive week this week. Meanwhile, Iowans are dealing with the fallouts of the total failure of leadership from Iowa’s elected representatives:

Despite the hardship Iowans are facing, Marianette Miller-Meeks, Ashley Hinson, and Randy Feenstra spent their Friday night fundraising at Miller-Meeks’ annual tailgate where tickets cost up to $7,000.

This isn’t the first time our representatives have been more focused on their re-election than solving the shutdown this month:

None of Iowa’s representatives have signed on to a bipartisan bill to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits that could end the shutdown.

“Randy Feenstra, Ashley Hinson, Marianette Miller-Meeks, and Zach Nunn need to end their vacations and get the government open,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart. “Why are they spending more time fundraising for their re-election campaigns and playing partisan blame games than working on a bi-partisan compromise to re-open the government and protect Iowans’ health care?”
