ICYMI: Trump Supporters Disapprove of $40 Billion Argentina Bailout

A new poll by The Economist and YouGov shows 48% of Trump voters disapprove of the Argentina Bailout

Des Moines – new poll by The Economist and YouGov found that almost half of 2024 Trump voters disapprove of Trump’s $40 billion plan to bail out Argentina.

More than half – 56 percent – of Americans disapprove of Trump’s plan to give Argentina billions of dollars, while only 20 percent approve.

Costas Panagopoulos, a political science professor at Northeastern University, told Newsweek“These estimates suggest Trump voters are less supportive of aid to Argentina when it is framed as Trump’s initiative compared to when it is described as an act of the U.S. government. While there is little change among Democrats regardless of how the question is framed, Republicans and especially independents express lower levels of support overall when asked about Argentina aid as a Trump administration policy, compared to a policy of the U.S. government. This may reflect skepticism among Republicans and independents about the administration’s motives in providing this aid or perhaps a general sense that foreign aid should be provided by the government not the president.”

Even MAGA Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Trump ally and Georgia Republican, disagrees with Trump’s plan. She wrote on X last week:

“Americans are getting decimated with high cost of living and skyrocketing insurance costs. Many of them have zero savings and some are maxing out credit cards to survive. Tell me how it’s America First to bailout a foreign country with $20 or even $40 BILLION taxpayer dollars.”

Iowa farmers have also openly criticized Trump’s plan for a bailout.

“There are so many better uses for $40 billion than bailing out foreign politicians and Wall Street speculators, ” IDP Chair Rita Hart said. “Trump is helping out Argentina at the expense of the American farmer and taxpayer. Why? Argentina is taking our ag markets. Instead of growing our economy and lowering prices like they promised, Republicans are taking Iowan’s’ tax dollars and giving it to our competition to get stronger and provide even more of the market share in the future. Trump is no friend to the Iowa farmer.”
