Can’t make it up: Ashley Hinson fundraises on private island as National Guard continues to work without pay and Iowans’ receive premium hike notices
Sea Island, GA — Ashley Hinson one-upped Randy Feenstra for tone-deafness this weekend. While Feenstra attended a fundraiser in Council Bluffs, Hinson was spotted at the NRSC’s swanky fall retreat on the private island of Sea Island, Georgia.
Last week, the Hill reported:
“An invitation to the NRSC’s fall meeting lists “group rates” for rooms at the resort ranging from $495 per night for a Garden Wing Room to $599 per night for the Beach Club One Bedroom Suite.
And the resort itself is a mecca for golf lovers, featuring three immaculately curated golf courses, a spa and fitness center and a picturesque white sand beach.”
It also includes “tartar-print dog beds” and “in-room pet dining menus.”
While Hinson is courting wealthy donors and powerful insiders, deployed Iowa National Guard troops are not being paid and Iowans are facing their premium payments more than doubling because of Hinson’s failure to keep the government open and extend ACA tax credits.
“Who is Ashley Hinson actually working for? Donors, lobbyists, and party bosses?” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart. “Raising money for her campaign on a private island when she should be getting the government open and preventing premium payments from skyrocketing is an insult to Iowans and certainly doesn’t give them any hope that she is concerned about their higher cost of living.”
