ICYMI: Grassley Calls Tariffs ‘Stupid Policy’ Even Though Every Iowa Republican Voted to Protect Them

“We haven’t had this kind of stress in agriculture since the 1980s.”

Des Moines – In a recent interview with RFDTV, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley called President Donald Trump’s tariffs ‘stupid policy’ even though every Iowa Republican who serves in the House voted to protect them.

“Why drive up the price of John Deeres because of a tariff on something they need for the tractor that they can’t even get in the United States? It’s a stupid policy,” Grassley said.

Grassley’s comments are in stark contrast to the out-of-touch blasting from House Republicans like Randy Feenstra and Ashley Hinson about a new “Golden Age of America.”

Iowa farmers are speaking up about Trump’s tariffs

“It’s not good for anybody,” said Doug Fuller, of Cambridge, who has farmed soybeans for nearly fifty years. “Best-case scenario for this year is that we never have to talk about tariffs again.”

“Farmers don’t want handouts. They want to sell their crops at a reasonable profit. Farmers understand that tariffs are ruining our future markets. Our rural economies can’t survive on bailouts,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart. “This is not Chuck Grassley’s first rodeo. It’s easy to see Trump’s tariffs are – as Grassley said – stupid policy. It’s hard to believe any Iowa politician is saying we’re in a Golden Age when the farm economy is being threatened.”
