Iowa Democratic Party Statement on Rep. Ashley Hinson Senate Campaign Announcement
Des Moines — Following Rep. Ashley Hinson’s Senate campaign announcement, Chair of the Iowa Democratic Party Rita Hart released the following statement:
“Ashley Hinson has spent her career prioritizing multi-millionaires like herself while she sells out working people in Iowa. She is ‘proud’ of her vote to kick thousands of Iowans off their health care, she votes against the interests of Iowa kids and farmers, and she has sold out our veterans by making it harder for them to get the care they deserve from the VA.
“Iowans deserve better than representation by Washington Republicans who only care about themselves, corporate interests, and the wealthiest Americans. In 2026, Iowa will elect a Democrat to the U.S. Senate.”
What to Know About Ashley Hinson:
Hinson has a long record of spiking health care costs for working families in Iowa to cut taxes for millionaires.
- Hinson said she was “proud” of her vote for the biggest cuts to Medicaid in history which will kick over 100,000 Iowans off their health care.
- Hinson gave a $121 billion tax cut to the richest 1% — but voted against capping prescription drug costs at $2,000 a year and against capping the cost of insulin at $35 a month.
Hinson consistently votes against the interests of Iowa’s seniors, farmers, and children.
- Hinson has voted to cut the Social Security Administration and supported spending cuts that would cause backlogs, wait times, and disruptions. Hinson even endorsed a budget plan that proposed raising the retirement age to 69.
- Hinson stands by the chaotic tariffs that are harming Iowa farmers, even as tariffs “cost Iowa businesses $90 million” in just one month.
- Hinson voted to cut millions in funding for Iowa’s schools and voted against enhancing the child tax credit.
Hinson sold out Iowa veterans and made it harder for them to get the health care they deserve.
- Hinson voted against the PACT Act, which helps veterans exposed to burn pits and other toxic exposure get the care they deserve.
- Hinson supported DOGE’s efforts, including firing veterans working in the federal government and cutting 80,000 jobs at the VA — even though Iowa VA employees said the cuts will make it harder for Iowa veterans to receive care.
