Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart Congratulates Catelin Drey on Tonight’s Special Election Win
The freshman state senator-elect in District 1 has broken the Republican supermajority!
Des Moines – Catelin Drey has prevailed in Senate District 1, securing the seat and taking away the Republicans’ supermajority in the Iowa Senate. This district voted for Trump in 2024 by over ten points. It is the fourth straight Democratic overperformance in Iowa legislative special elections this year.
Drey stayed focused on the people in her district, listened to their concerns, and represented the leadership and change for which they are looking. Our state and party will surely prosper as a result of dedicated Democrats like Catelin Drey.
“For the fourth special election in a row, Iowa voted for change,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart. “Catelin Drey will listen to the people, not the powerful, get our economy growing, and bring down costs for families. Christopher Prosch and Iowa Republicans spent over $180,000 on this race while Democrats from all over Iowa came together to give money, knock doors and write postcards. Our state is ready for a new direction and Iowa Democrats will keep putting forward candidates who can deliver better representation for Iowans.”
