RUNNING SCARED: Congressman David Young Becomes Second Iowa Republican to Refuse Debates

Young’s Refusal to Debate Shows He Can’t Defend His Record of Attacking Iowans with Pre-Existing Conditions and Favoring Partisan Political Games and Campaign Donations Over the People of Iowa.

WATCH: Cindy Axne Responds.

Congressman David Young knows he can’t defend his record in Washington D.C., which is why he is – instead of running for Congress – running scared from a debate with his opponent, Cindy Axne, ahead of the November 6th elections.

Just like his incendiary colleague Steve King who is also refusing to debate, Young knows that he has far more to lose than gain from voters learning about his job performance. From attacking Iowans with pre-existing conditions in exchange for campaign cash to standing by an increasingly challenged Administration that has destroyed Iowa farmers’ international markets, Young has consistently favored partisan political games over the people he was elected to represent.

“Debates are an incredibly important part of our Democratic process, and Congressman Young’s refusal to participate in a debate further proves that the people of Iowa’s 3rd District are not his top priority,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price.

“If Congressman Young doesn’t respect his constituents enough to explain his record as their representative, then he hasn’t earned another two years in office.”

In response to Congressman Young’s decision to avoid any tough questions about his job performance, Cindy Axne gave an interview to KCCI, saying:

“It is really unfortunate. These are some of the most important elections in 50 years, and Iowans deserve to have the opportunity to see us side by side, to answer the tough questions and quite honestly to have to answer to Iowans about his votes in Washington.”
