Trump’s Tweet to Delay Election Just Another Distraction From His Total Economic Failure

Iowa Republicans remain silent as Trump proposes delaying Election Day while 17.8 million Americans are out of work

DES MOINES  — President Trump’s empty threats to delay the election came on the same morning the economy reported a historic downturn and millions of workers are losing their jobs due to his chaotic mishandling of the pandemic.

As the GOP faces worsening headwinds as Election Day draws closer, Republican leaders in Iowa have failed to denounce his threat to democracy. When asked directly about Trump’s statement this morning, Sen. Joni Ernst responded only with pathetic crickets — refusing point-blank to stand up for the voting rights of Iowans by saying she is “not answering any questions.”

“President Trump is terrified of being held accountable at the polls by the nearly 120,000 Iowans out of work that he let down with his absolutely disastrous economic record. Governor Reynolds, Senators Ernst and Grassley, Ashley Hinson, David Young, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, and Randy Feenstra all need to answer for Trump’s chaotic distractions to bypass the will of the people,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Mark Smith.
