Today, Governor Kim Reynolds signed the Republican tax giveaway that benefits special interests and her wealthy campaign donors over the people of Iowa.
“Reynolds’ special interest giveaway will go down as one of the most cynical, destructive political moves in our state’s history. It’s bad policy that will cripple our state’s ability to serve the people of Iowa, but Governor Reynolds is signing it anyway to appease the special interests who are lining her campaign coffers. Iowans are tired of being left behind by Kim Reynolds’ political games, and we’ll show her at the ballot box this November,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price.
Iowans should be very concerned about Reynolds’ tax giveaway for three main reasons:
- Reynolds’ special interest free-for-all is a disproportionate giveaway for her wealthy campaign donors and corporations at the expense of services for working Iowa families. Even the Iowa families who get some money from this bill will end up in the negative because of the lost services like education, infrastructure, and public safety.
- This tax giveaway will make the Reynolds Budget Crisis permanent. It’s based on the same failed policies that drained the surplus created by Democrats and put our state in the red by hundreds of millions of dollars.
- This bill was crafted without bipartisan input, largely in secret, and in consultation with special interests – not the people of Iowa. The process by which it was passed hamstrung public feedback and purposefully limited accountability.
