With just a few weeks left until the election, Governor Reynolds faced another crop of bad headlines. From lack of empathy at a mental health forum to another unimpressive debate performance, Governor Reynolds’ campaign is floundering and clearly ready to say or do anything to win.

“Iowans are ready for new leadership,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price. “Week in and week out we’re seeing Governor Reynolds trying to maintain power, but Iowans aren’t buying it anymore. We’re ready for a new, positive era in Iowa, and that will be led by Fred Hubbell and Rita Hart.”

  • This week, at a mental health forum for gubernatorial candidates, Governor Reynolds was asked about Iowa’s F rating in mental health services by the Kennedy Forum and Scattergood Foundation. The Governor responded by saying, “Yep.” The lack of empathy from Reynolds is astounding, especially as Iowans continue to suffer from a lack of funding for mental health services under her administration.
  • On Wednesday, Fred Hubbell and Governor Reynolds faced off in the second of three debates. While Fred Hubbell talked about how he will fix the disasters Reynolds has created, Reynolds promised more of the same failing policies. She also stuck to tired attacks on Hubbell instead of offering solutions to the real problems that Iowans are facing.
  • The Des Moines Register released a study this week showing Governor Reynolds’ lack of protection for women across the state. The report showed a staggering drop in Iowa patients receiving family planning services. This comes as Republicans continue to attack Planned Parenthood and other family planning providers simply because they provide abortions. The attacks on clinics are nothing more than a partisan attack on Iowan women.
  • Iowans continue to suffer under Governor Reynolds’ privatized Medicaid program. In a Des Moines Register report, disabled Iowans describe living in Governor Reynolds’ Iowa. This includes fewer outings, longer commute times, and tighter living arrangements. This is yet another example of how Governor Reynolds’ privatized Medicaid disaster continues to hurt Iowans every single day.
  • Also this week, the Associated Press reported that the Iowa Judicial Branch is now tracking legal deadlines for two appoints of district judges made by Governor Reynolds. This comes after a formal complaint was made about Reynolds missing the deadline for appointing a district six judge.
  • Morning Joe interviewed Jasper County voters about their choice for Governor in Iowa this year and even those who voted for Trump or Independent candidates in 2016 are starting to swing towards Fred Hubbell. NBC News also moved the Iowa Governor’s race up in their list of the top ten governor takeovers for 2018.
  • Buzzfeed News reported on an increasing trend throughout the Midwestof Republican Governors just barely still clutching onto their administrations. Once again, Iowa was listed as a top pick up opportunity.
With just 17 days to go, the Reynolds campaign has run out of time to turn this ship – or, in this case, private jet – around.
