This past Sunday on Iowa Press, Kim Reynolds made it clear that she would go even further in her war on women’s health care.

When asked if she supports the exceptions for victims of rape and incest in the unconstitutional most extreme anti-women’s health care law she signed this spring, Reynolds made it clear that she only supports exceptions for the life of the mother.

This follows her remarks at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition’s event, where she said “we know that our work is not done” in reference to the extreme anti-women health care law she had just signed. In addition, this comes after a recent court challenge from an anti-choice group seeking to strip rape and incest exceptions from the so-called “fetal heartbeat law.”

The current law provides no protections for doctors whose patients decide that terminating a pregnancy is the best health care decision. This means that, if Governor Reynolds were to get her way, doctors treating victims of rape and incest could be arrested for making a medical decision.

“Governor Reynolds extreme leadership has decimated health care for women, from the defunding of Planned Parenthood to signing the most extreme anti-women’s health care law in the country, her continued attacks on the right of Iowa women to quality care is shameful. Iowans need leaders who will focus on expanding access to health care, not bent on partisan extremism at the expense of their well being,” said Iowa Democratic Party Spokesperson Tess Seger.
