Reynolds Gives $4 Million in Grants to Private Schools Mostly in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids
Seven out of eleven private schools that will receive grant money from the Governor are in Iowa’s two largest cities
DES MOINES – Once again, Kim Reynolds’ determination to give taxpayer money to private schools is overwhelmingly benefitting schools in Iowa’s largest urban areas and leaves rural schools behind.
These private schools have their own board of directors and unlike public schools can turn away any student for any reason.
“Kim Reynolds is showing once again that her priorities for Iowa’s kids are harmful. While she refuses to feed hungry kids, she’s sending millions of dollars to private schools that can turn kids away for any reason,” said IDP Chair Rita Hart. “Her policies are especially damaging to rural families who don’t have access to the private schools that are receiving these extra resources. We need to put this money back in public schools so everyone can have equal access to education and we need to make sure our kids have the food and resources they need to be able to learn.”
