Sticks to Strategy of Giving the Public Political Rhetoric Instead of Honesty.
The Reynolds Administration continues to hide critical information about their management of the Iowa Medicaid program to avoid being held accountable for the program’s horrific failures. This follows the Administration’s attempt to eliminate many of the reporting requirements over their disastrous Medicaid program earlier this year.

Governor Reynolds’ Medicaid Director, who already has a history of secrecy, was called to the carpet today after the estimated cost savings from Managed Care tripled without explanation. This comes after years of reports of Iowans being denied critical care, providers going without payment, and no concrete numbers on savings, which Reynolds claims precipitated the change in the first place.

Despite being specifically asked for details on cost savings, Reynolds’ Director Randol only provided vague, political rhetoric and refused to answer reporter questions. Randol even had the audacity to say “regardless of the methodology, there are savings,” despite the fact that the only reason he was there was to explain how he found the savings.

“Reynolds’ only argument in favor of her disastrous Medicaid program was cost-savings, which essentially dismisses vulnerable Iowans as numbers on a spreadsheet, and now she can’t even back that up with anything other than political talking points. Iowans’ lives are on the line, but the Reynolds Administration is too wrapped up in their campaign-driven rhetoric to care,” said Iowa Democratic Party Spokesperson Tess Seger.
