A year out from the election, the Republican Governor’s Association is already being forced to prop up Reynolds’ sputtering operation.
In newly released campaign finance reports it came to light that $1.3 million, over a third of Governor Reynolds’ campaign funds, came from Washington DC Republicans worried about her electoral chances.
In December, the Iowa Poll found that only 35% of Iowans were prepared to give Reynolds another term in office while 49% were already looking for an alternative. Even more recent numbers found Reynolds significantly under water with a 39% approval rating to the 47% of Iowans who disapprove of her job performance.
“Kim Reynolds has routinely put national Republican interests ahead of Iowa, so it’s not surprising she’s getting rewarded for her unwavering loyalty,” said Iowa Democratic Party Spokesperson Tess Seger. “Clearly, D.C. Republicans are worried about Reynolds’ tanking poll numbers and the growing energy on the ground behind Democratic candidates, so they rushed to bail out Reynold’s weak campaign incredibly early in the cycle. This is yet another sign that things are not looking up for the Governor’s re-election bid in 2018.”
