Iowans to join nationwide COVID-19 memorial lighting on Tuesday

DES MOINES — This week, the Iowa Democratic Party is celebrating the Biden-Harris inauguration in service and memorial to Iowans who have borne the brunt of the pandemic.

Today, as we honor Rev. Dr. Martin Luther Jr.’s legacy, the IDP is partnering with the Food Bank of Iowa to raise money and donate food across the state to our fellow Iowans in need. Democrats across the country are participating in the National Day of Service alongside President-elect Biden, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, and Iowans interested in joining can find more information here.

On Tuesday, January 19, at 4:30pm CST, Iowa Democrats will join Americans across the country in a memorial lighting to honor American lives lost to COVID-19. Iowa Democrats are encouraging Iowans to light a candle in the window and join in this nationwide moment of unity and remembrance.

“Iowans are kicking off Joe Biden’s presidential term with positivity and reflection,” said IDP Chair Mark Smith. “I hope Iowans join us in service as we strive to live our values and help our communities during this difficult time. In two days, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will begin to move our country forward and build back better.”
