Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price released the following statement in response to the announcement that the U.S. House is moving forward with USMCA:

“As one of the top exporters of agricultural goods to Canada and Mexico, this USMCA is a win for Iowa farmers and workers. House Democrats have been working for months to make sure this is the best deal for Iowa workers,” said IDP Chair Troy Price. “Iowans rely on a robust agricultural industry, and this agreement to ensure strong worker protections and lock in secure trade practices with our neighbors is essential for the future of our economy. It will provide much needed support for Iowa farmers who are already facing record levels of uncertainty and profit-loss from the compounding effects of Trump’s trade war, the EPA’s abuse of ethanol waivers, and climate change that has damaged fields.

“Representatives Axne, Finkenauer, and Loebsack, have been strong voices for Iowans on Capitol Hill, and their leadership to protect Iowa farmers and workers is exactly what Iowans elected them to do. I’m proud of our Democratic Congressional leaders for their hard work to push forward legislation that invests in our economic future and truly makes life better for Iowans.”
