Despite an unprecedented and politically motivated assault from the Iowa GOP, the overwhelming majority of public labor unions have voted to re-certify their contracts. Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price released the following statement:
“We are so proud of our brothers and sisters in Labor who put everything on the line to protect workers’ rights in Iowa. Their hard work and dedication represent the best of our state, and their cause makes Iowa a better place to live and work for all.
These results are yet another sign that the people of Iowa are sick and tired of these attacks on workers’ rights. The political games being played with our future are unacceptable, and if the strong showing from union members across the state is an indication of anything, it’s clear that the Republican Party will be held accountable for their misguided policy priorities in 2018.”
