Senator Janet Petersen, former Lieutenant Governor Sally Pederson and former longtime Planned Parenthood CEO Jill June Will Share The Real Story Of Governor Reynolds Record On Women’s Health Care That Has Turned Iowa Into A “Contraceptive Desert”

Reynolds Opposed Over-The-Counter Birth Control Legislation Two Years Ago, Yet Two Weeks Before An Election Will Say Anything To Get Elected

Monday, October 22nd, State Senator and Democratic Leader Janet Petersen and former Planned Parenthood CEO Jill June, will be holding a press conference in response to Governor Reynolds’ recent remarks saying she will work on legislation to provide over-the-counter birth control for women if re-elected as governor. In fact, Governor Reynolds and Republicans failed to support a similar bill in 2016 sponsored by Senate Democrats that would do the exact same thing.

This is just the latest example of Governor Reynolds willingness to say or do anything to win an election, including making false promises to voters nearly two weeks before election day.

The truth is Governor Reynolds’ disastrous policies on women’s health care have turned Iowa into a “contraceptive desert.” From her aggressive push to defund Planned Parenthood, one of the largest providers of low-cost contraceptives, to signing the most extreme anti-women’s health care law in the country, women have lost access to quality health care, especially family planning services, under Reynolds’ leadership. Newly released state data shows a staggering 50 percent drop in family planning program enrollment and a 73 percent decline in family planning services since Planned Parenthood’s defunding that has forced four clinics to close their doors and 15,000 Iowans to lose their local provider.
