Congressman David Young not only voted to strip protections for Iowans with pre-existing conditions, but he did it for purely political gain. A look at the timeline of Young’s flip flop on the AHCA shows nothing but spineless partisanship from a Congressman desperately trying to hold on to his seat.

Young initially said that he would oppose the GOP health care bill. However, after the Congressional Leadership Fund pulled funding from him, Young seemingly flipped his vote.

“Congressman Young continues to march in lockstep with Paul Ryan and Republicans in Washington instead of prioritizing what is best for Iowans. We deserve representatives in Congress who will put our interest above their own. David Young is clearly not that person,” said Iowa Democratic Party Spokesperson Tess Seger.

TIMELINE OF CONGRESSMAN YOUNG’S AHCA VOTE
March 22: Young says he will oppose the GOP health care bill.

March 23: Republican Congressional Leadership Fund says they will pull resources and no longer support David Young because of his opposition. First reported by Reid Epstein at the WSJ.

From the Washington Examiner: “But CLF’s decision to pull out of Young’s district, and risk giving Democrats the upper hand in the midterm, is intended to send a clear message that Republicans won’t be able to vote against Trump and their leadership with impunity.”

March 25: Rep. David Young says GOP health process was Obamacare all over again.

April 4: Paul Ryan and Paul Ryan PAC donate $9,000 to David Young.

April 14: David Young continues to publicly oppose the GOP health care bill. Says: “A bad process makes a bad policy. We have to slow down. We have to air this out.”

April 17: CLF announces $48 million reserved in midterm elections. David Young is not listed.

May 4: David Young votes for the bill without a single Congressional hearing. Claims the addition of the MacAurther amendment allowed him to vote for the bill, even though the bill would have allowed insurers to skyrocket premiums for people with pre-existing conditions.

NOW: The Congressional Leadership Fund is pouring money in to the Third District to save David Young.
