“Miller-Meeks repeatedly told the Press-Citizen in an interview last week that ‘every legal ballot (in the 2nd District race) was counted’ … But Miller-Meeks also acknowledged in an interview on PBS’ Iowa Press over the weekend that ‘there were votes that were cast that were for me also that were not counted and that I did not receive.’”

With thousands of ballots still unexamined and dozens more uncounted in the race for Congress in Iowa’s Second Congressional District, State Senator Mariannette Miller-Meeks has spent the last several weeks directly contradicting her previous positions and repeatedly undermining her own legal argument. No matter what new claims she’s making up, it is clear that Miller-Meeks will say anything to stop votes from being counted and seek power for her own political gain.

Iowa City Press-Citizen: Miller-Meeks mum on call for House investigation into presidential election

By Zachary Oren Smith, December 16, 2020

IOWA CITY, IOWA — While Joe Biden led in both the electoral college and the popular vote, President Donald Trump has sought to throw out legally cast ballots in multiple states. His effort has been rejected by the Supreme Court and, with Monday’s electoral college vote, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell congratulated President-elect Biden on his victory. But after waiting weeks to acknowledge the certified results of 50 states, McConnell and his effort to end his party’s attempts to cast doubt on the election didn’t work.

This week, 23 of the 45 incoming Republican representatives called on leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives to launch an investigation into the 2020 presidential election.

When asked Wednesday whether Miller-Meeks supports the investigation, Eric Woolson, the campaign’s spokesperson, repeated that she hadn’t signed the letter but declined to comment on Miller-Meeks’ stance on the investigation.

The letter comes as Democrat Rita Hart, who lost the now-certified election in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District by six votes, has similarly said she plans to ask the House Administration Committee to launch an investigation into whether Miller-Meeks’ was correctly certified as the winner of the 2nd District seat here under the Federal Contested Elections Act. While Hart’s petition to Congress has not yet been filed, she has told the Press-Citizen that she plans to ask the committee for a full hand recount of the entire district.

Still, when it came to her support of the incoming freshman representatives’ investigation, the Miller-Meeks campaign refused to clarify the candidate’s stance on the issue. Miller-Meeks similarly didn’t respond to multiple attempts for comment on the Texas lawsuit asking the Supreme Court to throw out the election results in four battleground states that President Trump lost in November, an effort Gov. Kim Reynolds said last week she would have signed onto if Iowa officials had been asked.
