Whitaker’s Relationship with Sam Clovis Further Jeopardizes Integrity of Mueller Investigation
Iowans are well aware of exactly how unfit for office Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker is, which is why it is so shocking that Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst have thrown their full support behind Whitaker despite glaring issues that threaten the integrity of the Mueller investigation and the United States Constitution.

Just in case some folks have forgotten Whitaker’s history and connections that further jeopardize his integrity and the integrity of the Russia investigation, here’s a reminder:

MATT WHITAKER’S IOWA CONFLICT OF INTEREST

Whitaker ran as a Republican against Senator Joni Ernst in 2014, and after his loss, went on to serve as the campaign chairman for Sam Clovis’ State Treasurer run. His relationship with Clovis is where serious questions come in to play about his credibility.

As the Des Moines Register points out, “Clovis later served as a co-chair of Trump’s presidential campaign and encouraged staffer George Papadopoulos to pursue a meeting with Russian officials.”

Sam Clovis is now under investigation as part of the Mueller probe, which his former political ally Matt Whitaker is set to oversee. Those relationships should not be discounted and provide ample evidence that Whitaker should recuse himself from the Mueller investigation.

The case for Whitaker’s recusal is further bolstered by the fact that he has already publicly shown his intention to limit the Mueller investigation and deny the American people their right to an honest assessment of serious threats to our Democracy.

Despite knowing all of this, Senators Grassley and Ernst have already come out in full support of Whitaker, forgetting the consequences that were promisedby their colleagues if Sessions was fired.

“By supporting the appointment of Matt Whitaker, Senators Grassley and Ernst have put their partisan alliances ahead of the integrity of our democracy. Iowans know better than most how concerning Whitaker’s involvement in the Mueller investigation is, and we are confident that those who let attempts like this to undermine our country go by unchecked will face consequences in 2020 and 2022,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price.
