In the Second Gubernatorial Debate, Reynolds Continues to Lack a Clear Vision, While Hubbell Committed to Protecting All Iowans
Wednesday night, Fred Hubbell and Governor Kim Reynolds faced off in the second of three debates between the gubernatorial candidates. Reynolds continued her tired trend of attacking Hubbell instead of defending her record, including a privatized Medicaid disaster and continued budget cuts that have hurt our most vulnerable Iowans.

Fred Hubbell, however, offered a clear and positive view for the future of Iowa. Hubbell’s vision included protecting Iowa’s rural communities, which have been hit hard by privatized Medicaid and the Trade War.

“We’re seeing time and time again Governor Reynolds attacking Fred Hubbell instead of addressing the problems Iowans are facing every day because she doesn’t want to talk about her record,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price. “Governor Reynolds’ vision is more of the same failed policies led by the same misplaced priorities. Fred offered a strong vision for the future of our state tonight, and we’re proud of the campaign he’s running.”

In the debate, while Reynolds promised largely the same policies that are currently hurting Iowans, Hubbell offered solutions to ending the hurt Republicans in the state have caused. These solutions include fully funding our K-12 education system, making sure everyone has access to quality and affordable health care – particularly those in rural areas who have seen their access to health care reduced – and fighting to make our workforce stronger.
