Deputy Field Director

The Iowa Democratic Party is accepting applications for the position of Deputy Field Director. The Deputy Field Director’s job description will include the following staff functions:

  • Assist the Field Director with the planning and execution of the Victory 2010 Coordinated Campaign plan
  • Assist in hiring and placing field staff throughout the state
  • Assist in training field staff throughout the campaign cycle
  • Implement field, voter contact, outreach and training programs as directed by field director
  • Assist with facilitation of canvass program
  • Day to day management of field staff
  • Assist in data analysis
  • Assist with State Central Committee and party building activities

Application Requirements

  • Previous organizing experience with a campaign, state party or non-profit organization is required
  • Previous campaign staff management and training skills required
  • Must possess strong analytical skills
  • Must be a motivated self-starter
  • Experience working with web-based voter files required
  • Extensive travel across the state is required
  • Reliable transportation is required

Regional Field Director

The Iowa Democratic Party is accepting applications for the position of Regional Field Director with a start date of March 1, 2010. The Regional Field Director job description will include the following staff functions:

  • Coordinating election activities with candidates, legislative staff, political committees, unions and field organizers within a specified region of Iowa
  • Performing outreach to activists and constituency groups
  • Implementing an aggressive internship program
  • Recruiting and training county coordinators
  • Managing, training and motivating field staff of 5-10 people to achieve daily and weekly goals.
  • Building for and staffing political events
  • Preparing regular field and canvass reports for the Field Director and Deputy Field Director
  • Implementing the Coordinated Campaign and GOTV plans in assigned region of the state
  • Training field staff to recruit and train precinct captains and volunteers
  • Serving as the primary contact for all county chairs in assigned region

Application Requirements

  • Previous organizing and canvass experience with a campaign, state party, membership organization, or non-profit is required
  • Previous campaign staff management and training skills desirable
  • Must be a motivated self-starter
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required
  • Computer skills required
  • Extensive travel across Iowa is required
  • Reliable transportation required

The Iowa Democratic Party is currently accepting applications for internships. Opportunities are available in a variety of fields such as communications, finance, field, and IT. All internships are UNPAID to allow for the availability of classroom credit in some institutions.
