To mark the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 this Sunday, Chair of the Iowa Democratic Party, Troy Price, released the following statement:

“Attempts to deny Americans access to the ballot box should be met with vehement opposition from every single citizen, regardless of party. Safeguarding our democracy is not a partisan issue and access to the voting booth is part of that. That’s why the Voting Rights Act was passed in the first place. Unfortunately, it appears that some of our elected officials have conveniently forgotten this principle in order to advance their partisan advantage.

In the face of the voter suppression tactics coming from the State Capitol and Governor’s office, the Iowa Democratic Party will keep fighting to ensure that every Iowan has the opportunity to cast their vote.”
