In honor of Labor Day and the Democratic Party’s continuing commitment to protecting the rights of Iowa workers and labor unions, Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price released the following statement:

“The Iowa we love and fight for was created by hard-working men and women who knew the value of their labor and devoted it to the creation of our state.

Supporting working men and women and their ability to collectively bargain for better wages and working conditions should not be a partisan issue. Unfortunately, It has become a favorite target for Republicans, and now they are systematically working to remove worker protections.

Kim Reynolds and her GOP counterparts have stripped collective bargaining rights, taken away protections for injured workers, and prevented state and local governments from signing contracts that ensure fair wages on government projects. They are trying to take us back to a time when management was pitted against workers, a time when we were all weaker. Iowans deserve better.

Iowa Democrats will not back down from the fight.  We stand shoulder to shoulder with our brothers and sisters in Labor in the struggle for better wages, better working conditions, and better opportunities for all workers to get ahead.”
