In the wake of his failure to truly condemn white supremacists and neo-Nazis after the violence in Charlottesville, the Iowa Democratic Party is calling on all Iowa elected officials to denounce President Trump and support censure efforts in Congress.

Chair of the Iowa Democratic Party, Troy Price, released the following statement on this call:

“President Trump’s inability to condemn people who are trying to tear the very fabric of our nation apart is deep offense.

We are calling on all of our Iowa elected officials, including Governor Reynolds, Senators Ernst and Grassley, and Representatives Blum, Young, and King, to denounce President Trump and support censure efforts in Congress.

Trump’s failures in the face of hatred reveal a man unfit for the presidency, and it is time for everyone, regardless of party, to hold him accountable.

We cannot allow this man and the hate organizations he abets to normalize the idea that anyone different from him is less deserving of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Iowa has a proud tradition of putting party aside and standing for the greater good our our people and our state. It is time for all of our Iowa elected officials to honor this tradition.”
