Despite claiming to have a “zero-tolerance policy” on sexual harassment, Governor Reynolds again refused to hold her political ally Governor Eric Greitens accountable for his alleged sexual assault and other felony charges.

“If the people of Iowa can’t rely on Governor Reynolds to stick to her word, how can we trust her to lead our state? Other Republican, Heartland Governors have already stepped up to the plate on this issue, Governor Reynolds needs to call for Greitens’ resignation now,” said Iowa Democratic Party Spokesperson Tess Seger.

DES MOINES REGISTER: ‘Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds won’t talk about Missouri governor’s sex scandal’

“Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds refused to comment Monday when asked about a sex scandal involving Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens, although some of his fellow Republicans have called for him to resign.

Greitens, who is married with children, was indicted in February on a felony invasion of privacy chargestemming from an explicit photo he allegedly took of a woman with whom he was having an affair. He’s been indicted more recently on a felony charge of computer tampering relating to his campaign’s alleged procurement of a nonprofit donor list without the charity’s knowledge.

Greitens, a Republican and a former Navy SEAL, was the headliner at  Reynolds’ Harvest Festival fundraiser in October in Des Moines, her first major public fundraiser since becoming governor last May. Greitens’ speech offered a long stream of praise for Reynolds, laced with calls for conservative action in Washington, D.C., and a commitment to patriotism.

But Monday, Reynolds quickly shut down any questions from reporters about the Missouri governor’s scandal, which has prompted Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner to call for Greitens to resign and for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker to say Greitens should step down if the allegations are true. Both Rauner and Walker are Republicans. Some Missouri Republicans have discussed impeaching Greitens.”

Greitens is scheduled to stand trial next month on a felony invasion-of-privacy charge related to the woman’s claim that he took a photo of her partially nude body and threatened to make it public if she disclosed their relationship, according to news reports. The woman has said Greitens slapped, shoved and threatened her during sexual encounters in 2015.”
