New Grants Create Jobs, Access to Broadband in Iowa

Posted on July 2nd, 2010 by Greg Hauenstein

Congressman Braley announced yesterday that $90.1 million in federal grants will be allocated for broadband projects in Iowa, creating 450 jobs and increase economic development for years to come. These projects will upgrade Internet access across the state, increasing access in schools, businesses, and health care facilities across Iowa, while giving rural communities the ability to compete in the global marketplace. In addition to federal money, Iowa will receive more than $200 million in outside investments, creating a public-private partnership committed to keeping Iowa on the cutting edge of technology and innovation. This is one of the 66 Recovery Act broadband projects across the country, that are expected to create 5,000 jobs as they drive economic development. Once completed, the project will install new access points across the state and upgrade the direct connections for community institutions.
