Former Governor Tom Vilsack, First Lady Christie Vilsack and Former Lt. Governor Sally Pederson to be inducted into the IDP Hall of Fame
DES MOINES – Iowa Democratic Party Chair Michael Kiernan announced today that former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack, currently serving in the Obama administration, former First Lady Christie Vilsack and former Lt. Governor and IDP Chair Sally Pederson, will be inducted into the Iowa Democratic Party Hall of Fame. The IDP Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Drake University in Des Moines.
“I am excited to announce this year’s Hall of Fame ceremony will honor the Vilsack/Pederson administration and their achievements,” said Michael Kiernan, Chair of the Iowa Democratic Party. “I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the 10thanniversary of the Hall of Fame than by honoring the legacy of the Vilsack/Pederson administration.”
“Democrats in Iowa have enjoyed tremendous success in the past few election cycles” continued Kiernan. “That success was built on the foundation that was created by Tom and Christie Vilsack and Sally Pederson during the historic 1998 election.”
The 2009 Hall of Fame Ceremony will mark the first time former Governor Vilsack has returned to Iowa to speak since beginning his service in the Obama administration. The Hall of Fame Ceremony is the second largest gathering of the year of Democrats across Iowa. Topped only in size by the Jefferson Jackson Dinner, held in the fall, the Hall of Fame is an annual event celebrating Party activists, supporters and the successes of the Democratic Party in Iowa.
